Peggio per te Fabrizio Urettini
Come ho già detto a Fabrizio Urettini questo testo che lui mi ha richiesto per una sua mostra e che io con totale incoscienza gli avevo promesso è per me peggio che complicato complicatissimo e finirò per deluderlo cosa che mi rincresce tantissimo perché ho grande stima di lui e anche un poco di affetto ma ora una breve premessa provo invidia per chi scrive in cinese perché non usa punteggiatura che nel cinese non esiste mentre nella nostra scrittura compresa la tipografica se ne contano quasi 40 segni compreso uno pochissimo usato il Piede di Mosca orbene ho sempre considerata la punteggiatura come una protesi usata per far camminare meglio un testo che zoppica e si considera debole poco espressivo e qualche volta a riprova ho fatto l’esempio del romanzo di Alessandro Manzoni in quattro tomi Fermo e Lucia che quando venne riscritto Promessi Sposi ebbe accresciuta quasi del doppio la punteggiatura e ora mi avvicino al vero tema di tutto il discorso Fabrizio Urettini è quel che si dice un mio fedele lettore e più che fedele direi addirittura totale lui dice che lo diverte il mio modo di scrivere e intende non questo ma quello normale e credo abbia letto quasi tutto di me davvero pure se ho scritto una montagna di roba e lui se ne ricorda tantissima perché è giovane e ha una grande memoria quando io invece e lo dico davvero mi sono dimenticato intere collane e lo ripeto che dico davvero ma adesso chiudo questa premessa che lo so bene che mi rende ridicolo ma mi rassegno a correre il rischio perché a Fabrizio Urettini mio caro amico e collezionista semantico non volevo fare mancare un mio testo promesso poi per farmi scusare si deve sapere che sono al terminale di un cancro e che questo testo scritto alla cinese sarà il primo stampato su carta che gli altri sono solo su video e questo potrebbe concedergli un certo valore..
E arrivo al testo più proprio che può servire a Fabrizio nasce dal fatto che circa mezzo secolo fa ho scritto per Gabriele Mazzotta del quale ero e rimango amico fraterno un libro dal titolo Wanted che a Gabriele che era allora di estrema sinistra era tanto piaciuto tanto che volle impaginarlo lui stesso cosa che ha fatto sul tavolo della cucina dove talvolta andavo a mangiare allora ero povero mentre la dolcissima moglie di Gabriele lavava i piatti e la figlia che oggi è di certo una donna bellissima correva d’intorno Mazzotta era e chissà se è rimasto un gran pasticcione per cui alla fine Wanted aveva nel libro le didascalie al posto del testo e viceversa ma con Mazzotta tutto era normale mi accadde anche pure di pubblicare con lui una biografia dal titolo Muybridge Magnifico Voyeur dove dimenticò di metterci il nome dell’autore cioè il mio però tutte cose che mi divertivano ricordo ancora che in copertina di Wanted mettemmo da prima la fotografia di Moro presa dalle BR davanti alla loro bandiera ma poi allora era un rischio da correre per cui la cambiammo con il sedere di un galeotto tatuato che avevo trovato al museo Lombroso insomma adesso devo bene concludere passarono gli anni e il Wanted di Gabriele Mazzota con le didascalie al posto del testo non si capiva più tanto bene però notai con molta sorpresa che nessuno accorto se n’era cosi io capii ma già lo sapevo che cosa sia l’Editoria ma ora tornando a Fabrizio Urettini a lui l’argomento di Wanted è piaciuto ed infatti devo ammettere che ha un fascino grande quasi come quello della Fotografia Pornografica e Oscena anche su questa ho scritto un volume che nella prima edizione a dispense è enorme e poi adesso ripubblicato hanno tolto la parte centrale che era quella migliore illustrata questo per dire che con gli Editori ho corso molte avventure ma infine sempre tornando a Fabrizio Urettini in un suo viaggio in America in Usa ha cercato e trovato le segnaletiche storiche al cui confronto quelle italiane dell’Ellero di Wanted che fanno pena è davvero dir poco spero proprio che se fa la mostra possiate vederle.
Adesso mano a mano che scrivo qualcosa ricordo del Wanted di allora dove in apertura si legge il discorso di quel Ministro di Polizia Francese che ha fatto nel 1839 per fare assegnare dal proprio governo una pensione a Daguerre che aveva scoperto come lui disse per caso il dagherrotipo il quale discorso rimane il testo più bello e divertente di quel milione che poi furono scritti sulla storia della Fotografia dicendo appunto che ne fu l’inventore ma ora confondere il dagherrotipo con il processo invece inventato da Hershel usando la Bibbia come primo apparecchio rimane il segno il principio l’origine di tutte le cose sbagliate che si sono poi scritte sul tema comunque il Ministro di Polizia aveva messo il dito sul principale vantaggio sociale e statale dello specchietto con la memoria d’argento fissato al fuoco della camera oscura ed era che appunto in quanto specchietto rappresentava l’umano sembiante rassomigliante al mille per cento e questo alla fine poteva essere il modo migliore per chiudere gli uomini almeno in un lager che oggi si direbbe virtuale.
Ma ora ho deciso finisco penso che a pubblicare questo cinese ci voglia tanto ma tanto coraggio però vi prego di notare una cosa è stato scritto in modo ritmato e intendo in versi di variabili accenti questo per dire che se uno l’imbrocca col tempo giusto fin dal principio può essere letto dondolando sui fianchi come fanno i cantori di rap.
Too bad Fabrizio UrettiniAs I’ve already told Fabrizio Urettini this piece he has asked me to write to accompany his exhibition and which I recklessly promised to do is not just complicated it’s incredibly complicated and I know he’s going to be disappointed with it which is a shame because he is someone I not only have a great deal of respect he is also someone I have become somewhat fond of nevertheless before starting I would like to include a brief introduction as I have always been a little envious of the Chinese because they don’t have to worry about punctuation whereas our writing and typography processes have nearly 40 punctuation marks including the little used Fly’s Foot I have always considered punctuation an artificial limb to help limp weak poorly expressed writing move along better and in the past I have used Alessandro Manzoni’s four volume novel Fermo e Lucia to demonstrate this as when it was republished as the Promessi Sposi or The Betrothed the amount of punctuation almost doubled which brings me to the real subject of this Fabrizio Urettini business he is what you could call one of my more faithful if not totally faithful readers as he says he finds my style entertaining when he says that of course he’s not referring to this but to my normal writing but whatever he really seems to have read just about everything I’ve written and that’s a whole mountain of stuff and what’s more he seems to remember a lot of it too but then again he’s young and he’s got a good memory whereas I have forgotten whole series of book I’ve written and I’m not joking I really have but it’s time I finished this introduction because I know its beginning to make me look ridiculous but I’m willing to take that risk because I promised my dear friend and semantic collector Fabrizio Urettini that I would write it and by way of an apology I think you should know that I am suffering from terminal cancer and this Chinese style piece is the first printed thing I have written since discovering this condition everything else I have done is on video only so I suppose that will at least give a certain value
So here we are at the start of this piece which I hope will be of some use to Fabrizio now the reason for all this business dates back over half a century to when I wrote a book entitled Wanted for my very close friend Gabriele Mazzotta who was a real leftwinger at the time and Gabriele liked this book so much he insisted on typesetting himself on the kitchen table which I often ate at as I was rather poor and Gabriele did this while his sweet wife washed the dishes and his daughter who has probably grown up into a beautiful woman by now ran and danced around him now Gabriele was always and probably still is a total disaster so when Wanted was finally printed it had the captions where the text should have been and vice versa but that was the order of the day with Mazzotta he even published a biography I wrote entitled Muybridge Magnifico Voyeur and forgot to put my name on the cover but I just thought all this was really funny I remember too that to begin with we wanted to use the photograph of Moro taken by his kidnappers in front of the Red Brigade flag for the cover of Wanted but at the time that was rather risky so instead we settled on the butt of a tattooed jailbird that I had found in the Lombroso Museum anyway now I really must come to the point the years went by and Gabriele Mazzota’s Wanted with its captions where the text should have been probably became a little difficult to understand and even if I have got used to the world of publishing I was always rather surprised to see that no one ever noticed there was anything out of place but to get back to Fabrizio Urettini he liked Wanted and I have to admit too that it does have great appeal, almost as great in fact as pornographic photography and I have written a book about that too the first edition was so big it was published in instalments then it was republished but they cut the entire central part out which was the part with the most photographs which just goes to show that I have had many run ins with publishers over the tears but last of all to return to Fabrizio Urettini again during a trip to America he looked for and found a series of vintage mugshots compared to which the shots published in Wanted taken by Ellero in Italy look rather pathetic to say the least so I hope he manages to set this exhibition up so you can see them
Now as I have been writing this a number of things have come to mind about Wanted like how it started with the speech made in 1839 by the French Minister of Police asking the government for a pension for Daguerre the man who discovered daguerreotype by chance so he said this speech is still the finest and most entertaining of the million other essays written since on the history of photography even if saying that Daguerre invented photography and claiming that the daguerreotype was the first ever camera instead of the process invented by Hershel using the Bible is the starting point the beginning the origin of all the mistakes that have since been written on the subject in any case this Minister of Police put his finger on the main social and civil advantage of the mirror with the silver memory focused on in the dark room by saying that as this mirror was a mirror it reproduced the human face and features with one thousand per cent precision and at the end of the day this was the best way of shutting mankind up in a lager that today we would call virtual
But now I have decided it really is time to finish and even if I can’t help thinking it’s going to take a lot of courage to publish these comments in Chinese nevertheless I would also like to say that it has been written with a distinct rhythm and in verses of varying tone so if you get into its rhythm right from the start you can read it while rocking from one side to the other like a rapper
